IN this age of globalisation, progress in the fields of science and technology and research has reached an unprecedented level. Every year developing countries are sending their students to western countries like USA, UK, and Canada for higher education as well as research. After some time these students return to their countries and utilised for further research and innovation. In the same way students from Bangladesh visit foreign universities and research institutions, but many of them do not come back and contribute to national development. They stay back or go somewhere else looking for better opportunities and the country remains deprived of utilising their services for which they were sent abroad. The government should take stronger initiatives to bring them back and utilise their knowledge acquired abroad. A talent plan should be devised to accommodate these people with scope for further research and adequate financial allocation for them. If we utilise their knowledge and experience, the country will be immensely benefited. In the process we will gradually achieve self-reliance in the fields of science, technology, and research.
